This is the beginning of Solomon's reign, and it opens

with a single word that seems to change everything. Second Chronicles chapter one, verse one,

Solomon, son of David, established himself firmly over his kingdom, for the Lord his God was with

him and made him exceedingly great. So let's pause

right there. God is with Solomon. And that should feel familiar. We've seen this before with Abraham,

Joseph, Moses, Joshua, David. It's a thread that ties the whole biblical narrative together, and it will reach its

ultimate fulfillment in Jesus, whose name literally means God with us. But for now, God's presence

is residing in a physical structure, the temple. And chapter one really sets the stage.

Solomon has just become king. He has one of the most iconic moments in scripture. God appears to him and says, ask for whatever you want me to give you.

So let's be honest, what would you ask for? Is it success, security, a relationship, a more stable

marriage, maybe a different spouse, more obedient children,

what would you ask for? Solomon asks for wisdom, not for his own benefit, but so that he can

lead God's people well. And God is so pleased with this request that he gives Solomon everything
