journeying through the New Testament. Today, we are in Romans 7. Yesterday, Paul used the metaphor of

slavery to describe two potential masters over mankind,

sin or righteousness.

While slavery to sin results in death, slavery to righteousness results in life.

Paul teaches us that slavery to Christ is actually choosing freedom, freedom from sins hold

God in Jesus, which is eternal life, as Jesus describes in John 17.3. Today, Paul will explore how

the law is insufficient in making us right with God. The law is powerless to save God's people. It provides a standard of

righteousness that we can never live up to. God does not grade on a curve, and his grading scale is

nothing less than perfect. Think about it this way. If you give a toddler a piece of paper and a crayon,

their scribbles on paper are cute until you give

them a coloring book. All of a sudden, you see there is a long way to go before they can color

inside the lines. The lines accentuate the toddler's inability to color inside of them.

The same is true for how the law accentuates our inability to obey God. The law was

unable to produce righteousness in us, but it was never meant to. This is why we need Jesus,
