Hello, friends. Welcome back to a year in the Bible Daily Grace. We are so glad you are here,

and we are nearing the end of the gospel of John and the gospels in general. I don't know about you,

but I love spending so much time learning about Jesus over

the last several months. Today, we are in John 18. Yesterday, we read Jesus' high priestly prayer,

where he prays to his Heavenly Father to glorify him, protect his disciples, and unify his church.

Today, Jesus' hour has come come and he is arrested by Jewish

authorities. While the last several chapters have been Jesus's teachings and a prayer, today's chapter

is full of action. But what I want us to focus on as we read John 18 is Jesus's control over each and every moment that leads him to the cross.

This chapter complements what Jesus teaches in John 10, 17, and 18 that no one takes this life from him.

He lays it down on his own.

Jesus is sovereign throughout the events of

his arrest and even to the grave. Let's take a look at the details. The chapter begins with Jesus

leading his disciples to the Garden of Gatsemone right off the bat. John lets us know that the spot was

well known by his disciples, including

Judas. Jesus doesn't hide. He goes right to the spot where he knows Judas will be looking.

Jesus delivers himself to his enemies. And sure enough, Jesus arrives with not just a few

temple guards, but with an entire faction of roman soldiers and jewish officials some scholars believe that there is at least two hundred roman soldiers here bearing lanterns and torches and weapons
