This year we will fix our gaze upon Christ so that we may know

him, not only with our minds but with our hearts. Together we will learn that

who Jesus is changes everything.

Hello friends welcome back to a year in the Bible with daily grace my name is

Katie and it is my privilege to read with you through the Gospel of John. Today we are studying John 13. Our reading

today marks a pivot in John's Gospel. Jesus's public ministry on Earth has winded down in the sense where there will be no more public miracles,

besides, of course, his resurrection.

Jesus will no longer travel from one town to the next and that means that although we are just a little

more than halfway through this gospel in the span of Jesus life he only has a matter of days before the crucifixion.

Starting here in John 13 through John 16

Jesus is with his disciples teaching and preparing them,

preparing them for his coming death and for ministry when he is no longer physically

with them.

In these chapters, we see Jesus' perfect stewardship of the disciples that God has given to him, and we see how he calls them and us to model our lives after his love.

With that foundation, let's dive into the text. Chapter 13 describes the last supper.

The last meal Jesus will share with his disciples.

If you remember in John 2, Jesus told his mother that the time had not yet come for him to be revealed.

And in John 7, Jesus tells his brothers that he will not publicly attend the festival shelters

because his hour has not yet come.

And again in John 7 and 8, when Pharisees try to seize Jesus, they are unable to because
