0:18.5	But the stories that made headlines and decades passed aren't necessarily remembered today.
0:25.1	I remember Hunt, a journalist and author, and in each episode of this show, I'll examine
0:30.2	a case that's maybe lesser known today, but was huge when it happened.

0:50.5	As Edward Earl walked toward his fate one cloudy October morning, he didn't seem the
0:55.6	least bit rattled, which set a lot considering what that fate was.
1:00.8	Earl stood upon the gallows that had been erected for him the day prior and had a new

1:07.3	He seemed content with it all.
1:10.2	Usually in this era, a lever would have been pulled and the floor beneath Earl would have
1:14.6	dropped away, but this setup was a little different.

1:26.9	The gallows was constructed so that the condemned persons, condemned man, stood and there
1:35.0	was a weight attached to the rope and you would activate a switch, drop the weight, and
1:42.3	then you would put them a slightly off center to weight with yank them up and to the side

1:51.8	This attention to detail and even emphasis on being humane in their executions might make
1:58.5	it sound like the county had tons of experience with hangings, but that's not so.
