We are moving on from the Gospels and studying the book of Acts. We have been in the Gospels for months now, and now we have a great foundation for

which to move into Acts, which will give us an historical record of the early church. As we set the

stage for Acts, I do have a question for you. Do you have a favorite book or movie series?

There are countless sequels and trilogies out there.

You may be thinking Chronicles of Narnia or Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter or Mark or the Lion.

No matter what series is your favorite, they all have a few things in common to be considered as a unit,

probably central characters and a plot line that

builds from one book to the next. So too, Acts can be seen as the sequel to the Gospel of Luke.

They share the same author and the same intended recipient. They build upon each other's plot.

While the Gospel of Luke shares all that Jesus began to do and teach, the book of Acts

shares the continuation of Jesus' ministry by the Holy Spirit, working in the Apostles or the early

founders of the church. And Luke and Acts also share the main character, Jesus. Though we will read about Peter and Paul and many other disciples in Acts, Jesus is still the main character just as he is the main character of each gospel we have read. So before we dive in officially, who is the author of Acts? Just like the Gospel of Luke, technically, the book is written anonymously.

But church tradition points to Luke, the dearly loved physician, as referenced by Paul in

He writes the book to a man named Theophilus, the same recipient of his gospel.
