year-long study of the New Testament. As always, I'm using the Behold study guides from the Daily Grace Co,

Before we dive into 2nd John, I want you to turn your Bibles back to John 14.

Jesus is in the upper room with his disciples, sharing some final encouragement before he is arrested.

He looks at his disciples and says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the

father except through me. Jesus establishes himself as truth. John has heard this truth,

seen this truth, and even touched truth with his hands, as he tells us in his first letter.

Throughout 2nd John, John will encourage his audience to cling to this truth and to each other

so that they do not fall prey to false teachers infiltrating the church.

If you remember from 1 John, these false teachers looked like Christians on the outside,

yet they purposely sought to lead Christians astray. Today we are reminded of their theology.

They do not believe Jesus was both fully God and fully man. To deny these essential truths of the faith

is to deny Jesus.

Rejecting Jesus' humanity or his deity is to reject the gospel.

If Jesus was not fully man, then he could not suffer and die on our behalf.

If Jesus was not fully God, he could not have risen from the grave.
