Hey guys, welcome back to the Forgotten Jesus podcast. My name is Andrew Bolton. I'm here today with Pastor Robbie Gowdy and Candy Gallaty.

Okay, so pastor, we have been talking about Hellenism on the past couple episodes. I'm not sure if I'm honest that I want to get

into this conversation because today we're talking about entertaining ourselves to death.

Yes. Why don't you want to get into it? I'm just afraid of the conviction of the Holy Spirit as we

talk about this. Yeah. You know, sometimes as preachers and teachers, you preach to convict yourself. You convict yourself as you're preaching. I'm pretty sure every message I've ever preached has been to myself. Yeah. Well, it should be to yourself before you preach it to others, right? That's right. A sidebar for those who ever speak or teach the word. I always tell young preachers, if the message doesn't move you in the study, don't expect it to move your people on Sunday.

That's good.

You should be as excited and worked up and passionate to preach it as they are to hear it, right?

Okay, so let's recap, and this is the end of our journey from Hellenism.

And we're going to hopefully put a period on it and hopefully find out that Hellenism,

remind me, is similar to another word in our culture that sounds and is spelled very similar.

Okay.

Okay.

So up to this point, we learn Alexander the Great comes in and he conquers the whole known world,

not by brute force, but by manipulation, coercion, options.

He comes in and says, listen, you don't have to worship me only. You don't have to worship the Greek

gods of the Parthenon and of the Greek world. Just, in fact, open your mind, broaden your

understanding. Let me go ahead and give you options, right? The first one is,

if you remember, education. Right. He said, you guys are studying this one book. I mean, there's a lot of

books out there. In fact, there's a whole library of books to choose from. Why don't you open your

mind and study astronomy and biology and geology and everything else that is out there. Or history of another world and false gods and religions.

He wouldn't call them false.

He'd call them true, but we'd call them false gods.
