My name is Tiffany and I want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through the Bible chronologically.

Hey, you're in the Bible family, Tiffany here, and today we take a look at some more of the Psalms that David likely wrote during the period in his life when he was on the run from Saul.

As we saw yesterday, despite David's hardships, he was confident in the Lord and found refuge in him.

Our five Psalms today will continue to build on those same themes, but we will also see David continually request rescue.

As he battles despair and remains on the run, he places his trust in the salvation only God provides.

We will talk about what that meant for David and how we experience this as believers today.

Let's get started with Psalm 56.

1:17.0

Like Psalm 34, which we studied yesterday, this Psalm was written after David's time in the Philistine town of Gath.

1:27.0

It's another Psalm of lament, as David has great sorrow over the adversaries that continue to chase him.

This included the Philistines and Gath, but also Saul and his palace officials and agents.

David has been falsely accused and oppressed, but he says in verse 9,

this I know God is for me and he tells us why in verses 3 through 4 and then again in verses 10 through 11 when he repeats his reliance on God's word.

Did you notice the repetition in these verses?

David has nothing to fear from man because the Lord is who he trusts.

2:12.0

No Philistine, no king, and no palace officials cause him to fear.

2:17.0

God will rescue him and cause him to walk in the light of life.

The light of life is Jesus. Jesus tells us in John 812.

I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.

2:40.0

Through Jesus, believers experience the light of life. Jesus rescues us from death.
