Today, we take a look at three more Psalms on our chronological journey.

These three Psalms, though likely not written at the same time or by the same author, have many similarities and themes woven throughout them.

As we take a look at them, we want to focus on God's compassion and the several verses that clearly present the gospel.

I know my heart was moved to worship as I read these three Psalms today, and as I focused on so many of God's attributes.

We rely on the Lord, who is our only sure foundation.

Let's get started with Psalm 102. The author of this Psalm is unknown. It is a Psalm of individual lament, as the person who faces affliction cries out to the Lord.

This Psalm has many similarities to the speeches of lament we read in Job when he cried out to the Lord to hear him and his distress.

This author cries out in anguish for the Lord to hear his prayer as well.

But though he cries out, he has great reliance on God despite what he faces.

His reliance is seen in a right understanding of God's infinite nature and our finite lives.

He reminds us in verse 3, how fleeting life is when he says, for my days vanish like smoke and my bones burn like a furnace.

We see this truth in the New Testament as well when James, the half-brother of Jesus, says in James 4-14.

Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring, what your life will be, for you are like a vapor that appears for a little while then vanishes.

When we understand that we are simply as spec on the timeline of history, we can clearly see God's amazing compassion for sinners.

No matter what strife, anguish, or affliction we face, our great God is the same forever.

In Psalm 102, 27, the Psalmist says, but you are the same and your years will never end.

This verse clearly tells us God is unchanging and infinite.
