My name is Tiffany, and I want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through the Bible chronologically.

Together, we will explore God's sovereign plan as the events of Scripture unfold and point to Jesus.

Welcome back, friends, Tiffany here, and today we continue to walk through the Book of Numbers together.

Before we get to chapters 22 through 24, I do want to chat briefly about the sections of chapter 21 we didn't quite get to yesterday.

As we move through the narrative of chapter 21, we saw how God was moving the nation toward Canaan to conquer it.

At first, they were denied access to the king's highway through Edom, but they tasted their first victory against the Canaanite king Arad.

This is followed by a second and third victory against King Cyan of the Amarites and King Og of Bashan.

These victories gave the Israelites confidence as they approached the

promised land, and it instilled fear in the hearts of the surrounding nations. It is this fear

that drives the events of chapters 22 through 24 today. When we take a moment to look at a map of Israel's journey to take the

promised land, we quickly notice they are on the east side of the Dead Sea and the Jordan River.

Israel would enter the promised land from the area known as the Transjordan region.

This is important for many reasons. First, Israel would conquer

the nations in that region, then they would need to cross the Jordan River during flood stage,

and then they would have to defeat fortified cities like Jericho. But God had already given them

great victories among their enemies,

and if there is one thing we will learn from the narrative of Balaam today, it is that nothing

can thwart God's plan or break his covenant to his people, not even a greedy prophet or a terrified

king.
