0:36.0	Jesus hasn't been who anyone expected, but he has been exactly who they need and exactly
0:42.4	who we need. Today we study his compassion for the multitudes, his disciples, and us.
0:50.3	But first we say goodbye to the man who prepared the way for the Messiah.
0:54.8	All three accounts today mention the death of John the Baptist
0:59.8	and it is prefaced by Herod Antipus's fear over all he heard that Jesus was doing in the region.
1:08.0	Jesus reminded Herod of John the Baptist, who he had executed.
1:14.5	The details of his death then follow.
1:18.4	John the Baptist had been arrested by Herod Antipus, the Tetrak of the region, for speaking against his unlawful marriage
1:26.3	to his brother's wife Herod.
1:30.3	Herod was conflicted by John.
1:32.9	He was angered by John's outspokenness against his marriage,
1:37.1	but he was also intrigued by this righteous and holy man.
1:42.3	In other words, his sin nature battled against the message John spoke
1:46.9	about the Messiah, but his wife felt no such intrigue. We read that at Herod's birthday banquet, Herod's daughter
1:57.1	dances for him and his guests, and because he is so pleased he vows to give her anything she wants.
