Hey, you're in the Bible family. Tiffany here. Welcome back to the podcast. Our journey

brings us to Mark 11 and John 12 today. You likely noticed some similar narratives and events from our time in Matthew and Luke

yesterday, as you read the Mark and John accounts today. Since we already covered the triumphal entry

and the cleansing of the temple, we will focus our time on the barren fig tree, Mary anointing

Jesus, and Jesus summary of his mission.

As we will see today, the time of Jesus' earthly ministry is drawing to a close,

and his urgency to share the message of salvation is evident in his interactions among the disciples

and the crowds.

Let's begin by taking a look at Mark 11 and the example of the fig tree.

After his triumphal entry into Jerusalem,

riding the colt down the Mount of Olives to cries of Hosanna,

Jesus went to Bethany.

Mark tells us that the next day he left Bethany and was hungry when he saw

a fig tree in the distance. The tree had the appearance of bearing fruit because it had leaves on it,

but upon closer inspection there was no fruit. He then cursed the tree to never bear fruit again. This might seem like an

odd incident at this moment in Jesus' ministry, or for the authors of the Gospels to include it all.

But the Holy Spirit led these men to include this event to further display what Jesus has been teaching across the pages
