0:32.6	When we were last in Isaiah, the prophet shared the difficult message of Israel's fall to
0:37.8	a Syria.
0:39.3	As we take a look at chapters 9 through 12 today, there will be hope sprinkled throughout
0:44.2	these chapters with a great deal of judgment as well.
0:48.6	This reminds us that we serve a God who is loving and faithful, but also just.
0:54.7	We rejoice in every aspect of his character as he sovereignly weaves together the plan
1:00.2	of redemption.
1:02.1	We begin with Isaiah 9 verses 1 through 7.
1:07.1	These verses are quoted often at Christmas as we celebrate our wonderful counselor, mighty
1:13.5	God, eternal Father, and Prince of Peace.
1:17.4	But let's think for a moment how our original audience might have heard this message.
1:23.2	This nation longed for the promised Messiah and could only see him dimly like a blurry
1:29.1	picture in the distance.
1:31.4	Imagine the great hope these words from Isaiah evoked as the people of Judah listened to
1:37.8	the prophesied destruction of their brothers and sisters in the northern kingdom.
