Alright, hey HoDunk, welcome back to the show. You know, one of the most frequent questions

I get asked as a comedian is, hey man, where do you come up with all your material? And

that is a great question. And the answer usually is, how did you find out where I live?

Please leave or I will call the police. No, I'm kidding. You see what I did?

It was a bit of a magic trick there. You see that? And although it was a very weak one,

a weak attempt at comedy, it was in fact something that I created. It's been created before.

That type of surprise joke is something that most comedians almost have to use at some

point, right? Here's one thing about me. I don't get bogged down on whether a piece

of material is so called hack or hack need. That just means it's hokey or cliche. It's

been done a million times. I understand that. But the fact is that that idea has never

been done by me. And I've never used my point of view and talked about it. And that's

what creators do. They bring something to the game that no one else has. They bring their

own point of view. And the fact is that in the past, whenever I became aware, you know

that another comic was doing a very similar joke to mine, I looked at it this way. First,

okay, if the comedian is doing the bit, if that comedian is established and really good,

I thought, you know what, hey, you must be on the right track, right? You're right in

this, you know, similar premises and ideas to what the professionals are doing, then

I'm doing okay. Also, I could judge to see if my idea was actually funnier. And sometimes

it was and sometimes it wasn't. You know, most of what you talk about on stage has been

talked about already many, many, many times. But the fact is we talk about a lot of the

same subjects because, you know, a lot of us have similar references in our life, right?

And comedy is about relating. And yes, you don't want to have everything be hacked in
