It's not the safest place, but you think, okay, they're being looked over, they're being somewhat taken care of.

And this is supposed to be where we keep the unsafe safe.

There's a built-in bias there.

And if you're in prison, it's like, hey, what are you expecting?

Outside of prison, there are more resources for dealing with a mental health crisis.

You can call the suicide prevention hotline.

You can talk with family or friends who could help you find treatment.

You don't even have to leave your house.

There are virtual therapy appointments by phone, text or video call.

But what do you do when you're having a crisis behind bars?

To find out, we drove to Kokomo, Indiana to meet Charday Avery at the Public Library.

It was a chance to get out of the house.

She's mostly been stuck at home during the pandemic.
