Tiffany here, and today we study Paul's letters to the Colossians and to Philemon.

We won't be able to get into too much detail, so we will look at the context for these

letters, overarching themes, their structure, and the applications for today.

We know from the end of our time in Acts yesterday that Paul lived under house arrest in Rome

for two years while he waited to appear before Caesar.

It was during this time period that he wrote letters to the church in Colosse and to Philemon.

Philemon lived in Colosse and his home was used as a place for the church to gather within

Paul specifically wrote to Philemon because one of his slaves, a man named Onesimus, ran

away to Rome.

While there, he met Paul and was converted, Onesimus was now a fellow brother in Christ.

Philemon had every legal right in that era to punish Onesimus, but Paul appeals to Philemon

to welcome Onesimus as a brother in Christ.

Paul even offers to pay for any monetary burden that Onesimus abandonment had caused.
