Today, our journey from Eden to eternity continues in the book of Second Thessalonians.

In this second letter, Paul continues his encouragement to the Thessalonians and addresses further concerns about Christ's second coming.

In all things, he reminds them that the Lord is faithful, and it is him that they find their strength in.

As we mentioned yesterday, Paul lived and ministered in Corinth for about a year and a half at the end

of his second missionary journey. And it was during that time, he wrote these letters to the Thessalonians.

His time with them had been cut short due to persecution, and in both letters, he takes time to encourage

them in all that he has heard about their growing faith

and to clarify Jesus' return.

With only three chapters, this letter is short and can be broken into three corresponding sections.

In chapter one, Paul greets the Thessalonians on behalf of himself, Silas, and Timothy, in grace and peace.

He is encouraged by their faith, which he has heard is flourishing as their love for one another grows.

He also addresses the persecution and affliction they face and encourages them not to be discouraged,

because God will bring vengeance upon their enemies. But that vengeance is first and foremost

due to their rejection of Christ. In 2 Thessalonians 1, 9 through 10, Paul explains what will

happen to unbelievers and believers when Christ

returns. He says, they will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord's presence

and from his glorious strength on that day when he comes to be glorified by his saints
