Before we begin today, I wanted to take a moment to mention that these chapters were placed a few days sooner than they needed to be in our reading plan.

Second Chronicles, chapter 20, ended with the death of Judah's King Jehoshaphat. And as we study 2nd Chronicles

chapter 21 through 23 today, we will see just how quickly the people of Judah turn from the Lord.

Even though Jehashaphat loved the Lord and served him well during his 25-year reign, he had two major failures.

First, he did not destroy all the high places where the people of Judah worshipped false gods. And second, he allowed his son, Jehoram, to marry Athaliah, the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel. Both of these failures will have

grave consequences for the people of Judah. But as we studied yesterday, the battle belongs to the

Lord. And we will see today, when all hope seems lost, God's plan of redemption will not be thwarted.
