Today, we take a look at 1 Kings 5 through 6 and 2 Chronicles 2 through 3 as Solomon begins building the temple.

I love that we have two records that give us the details of this great event.

2 Chronicles provides us with extra details that only enhance our understanding and awe of God's written word and the beauty of the temple where he dwelt.

We will walk through a lot of details about the temple, but we'll also end with two pillars of truth that not only encouraged the Israelites but encouraged believers today.

As we get started, let me encourage you to look at a picture or diagram of the temple.

Most study Bibles have one, you can find one in a Bible dictionary or handbook, or you can do a quick search online.

These pictures will give you an idea of the grander of the temple when you read the various measurements and details.

It's all so helpful to look at a map so you can see just how far the materials traveled to get to Jerusalem from Tyre.

So let's dive in.

1 Kings 5 and 2 Chronicles 2 detail the correspondence between Solomon and King Hyrum of Tyre.

King Hyrum had been friends with David and provided the lumber for his palace.

Now, as Solomon begins the temple, he contacts this old ally and the two of them make a treaty.

This treaty benefited Solomon through building materials and workers and it benefited Hyrum as Solomon provided food for Tyre as his payment.

This treaty was mutually beneficial and provided peace between the nations.

I want to take a moment to talk about the building materials provided by Tyre.

No detail was too small for the Lord, so it isn't too small for us either as we continue to understand his ordered and purposeful nature.

Tyre, as well as Sidon and Giebel, which are mentioned in this narrative, were located on the Mediterranean Sea.
