My friend Todd Stout and I were standing at the side of the road. There was a

memorial to a boy named Kyle Bateman who had been struck by a car and killed last week. The bike

he'd ridden, this nice BMX bike, was repaired, painted white, and left at the corner of the street

where he'd been struck. Kyle had only been 13 years old. There were balloons,

flowers, candles, and even teddy bears at the site honoring Kyle's memory. And this bike, it was just

parked there, not chained up or anything. All you have to do is get on it and ride away, Todd said.
