Hello again, Story Club members. I'm Ivy, your ghostly host with the most and keeper of the strangest,

spookiest tales on earth. Today is another Ivy's chilling tale. This dynamic tale story club

members might make you wonder what that red streak is after dark.

It's one I call faster than the speed of fright.

The red racer sprang from one building to another under the dark moonless night.

Laura Ratner could barely remember who she was before people started dubbing her that ruddy moniker.

One thing she did know is that as soon as night fell and everyone was asleep, she felt compelled

to escape into the city and vault over high fences across tall buildings and swing from random

flagpoles. People who were out at night would try to get a glimpse of her scarlet head-toe

costume that was strangely scaled like a snake.

But most of the images and videos were nothing more than a blur.

Laura was fast and would pop up into the light like a shark bursting its nose through the surface of the sea

before diving back into the comfort of the shadowy depths.

Only a few weeks ago, Laura had simply been Laura, an average fifth grade student going

to Mega City Elementary School.

One normal evening, she'd amble to the little market just a few blocks from her home to

pick up some food for her dog.

In the next moment, she was being terrorized by a man in a flashy red outfit.

He'd pulled her into an alley before she realized what was happening.

At first, Laura thought he was going to harm her in some way, but that wasn't the case at

all.

He told her that he was dying.
