From NBII Studios, this is Truth and Justice, a crowdsourced investigation in real time.

I'm Bob Roth.

Ahoy, friends, welcome back to truth and justice. You are tuned into the Friday follow-up for Season 18, Episode 1, Know Your Rights. This week's main episode was extremely informative one,

0:48.7

one that like it or not, many of us needed to hear. Bob broke down many misconceptions

0:52.9

with our rights as American citizens. My name is Zach Weaver, and as always, I'm joined by Bob Ruff and Janet Varney, and the three of us have a lot to talk about this week. But before we get into that, I do know we have a little bit of housekeeping leading today's follow-up. Yeah, well, it's not really housekeeping. I just wanted it. This is going to flow a little differently than normal.

1:15.0

There was a very triggering material that we talked about that I talked about in this week's episode. It was something that, you know, I had to think long and hard about before even bringing

1:19.6

it up. I, as you know, ultimately decided to bring it up. I had in my mind that, you know,

1:25.5

I'm sticking to the purpose of the episode, which for those of you that have been around, you know, that I was planning this episode before the incident in Minneapolis ever happened.

1:35.8

It was just, when it did happen, it fit too much into it and I had too many questions about it to, as I said, like, I can't pretend that that's not

1:45.2

relevant and to bring up as a real world example of some of the things that we're talking about.

1:51.1

And so the way this is shaking out is the way I expected it to shake out, which was I'm going to

1:56.2

stick to breaking down the laws and the rights and how they apply in these situations. I'm not going to get

2:02.3

into litigating that incident and going through those specific details or getting into

2:08.0

my thoughts on ICE in the episode because that just wasn't what the episode was about. One,

2:13.6

and two, I also knew that we would have the opportunity here where we can talk a little more freely about that stuff in the in the follow up episode. But I just want to make clear that, you know, based on, you know, a lot of the questions, a lot of the feedback that we got that, you know, it was intentional on my part. And if you notice, I never said Renee Good's name. I never talked. You know, I didn't get into the specifics of it, and that was on purpose because I really wanted to focus on the case law. So what,

2:38.6

what I hope that everyone took away from the episode, what my intent was, was very simply

2:45.5

to point out where your rights are and where your risks are.

2:51.6

And you'll see from some of the questions and things that we're going to be discussing today,

2:55.2

a lot of people, I think that I don't know.

2:58.4

I'll just say.

2:59.4

What I want to say is that some people like heard what they were going to hear as soon as like I started talking about this topic rather than hearing what I was saying.

3:08.9

So I just want to make clear, and I don't fault anybody for that. This is, as I said,
