I began this investigation more than a year ago with a single question.

What happened to Karima Baluch?

Trying to answer that has taken me down paths that continue to be both surprising and

concerning, discovering threats, very real threats against Pakistani dissidents living

in the West.

An assassination plot, allegations of state sanctions kill lists, tens of thousands of missing

people grabbed by the Pakistani state, most tortured, many killed, and an unsettling introduction

to the ISI, Pakistan's feared intelligence agency with tentacles spread throughout the

world.
