Summary

This episode is all about the forensic evidence that was concealed from the jury and ignored by the prosecution in Chris Bynum's case. Post-conviction investigators uncovered evidence and connections that have opened doors to new leads. Why also learn why some of this evidence may have been ignored by the original investigators.

From NBII Studios, this is Truth and Justice, a crowdsourced investigation in real time. I'm Bob Ruff. Over the last several weeks, we've been focused on Chris's trial, the evidence and the witnesses

that the jury heard, the evidence that convicted him. Today we're going to shift our focus. We're going to

0:50.6

examine the element of this case that I teach my investigative journalism students to always be mindful of.

or otherwise. The entire case was built around this premise.

1:47.0

In an untapped, non-transcribed interview, Chris Bynum said that he was involved in these murders,

1:53.0

and therefore, he must have been.

1:55.8

But what are they not saying?

1:58.1

The truth.

1:59.4

That they can't actually prove it.

2:01.6

So all of this leads us to an obvious question.

2:13.6

How do you prove someone committed a crime?

2:16.6

The answer is simple. Evidence. Real evidence.

2:22.1

And ideally, forensic evidence. The ball field crime scene in particular was exceptionally violent.

2:28.8

It wasn't like the house crime scene where three people were shot in quick succession and the
