Summary

Buckle up as we're about to embark on a trip around the world to find out what it's like to date when you're the one immersed in a new culture. We're chatting with Kat about her experience dating (and finding love!) in Brazil and Andy, who has been living (and dating) in Sweden & Germany as ex-pats from the US. And then we'll hear from Ai about the culture shock she experienced when dating in the US coming from Japan. We're discussing how dating "works" in different cultures, what it's like to date someone who speaks another language, and how much our culture impacts how we date and find love. Here's a fantasy for you during COVID.

0:18.5

How many of you thought about moving to a different country, dating someone there, falling in love, and then staying in that country.

0:26.0

I certainly have had all these fantasies before, and sometimes it's not as romantic or as smooth as you think it is when you're dating someone from a different

0:36.3

culture, especially in their country, right?

0:39.3

I've also wondered what it's like for people that come to the US.

0:43.6

Because have you dated people of other cultures?

0:46.5

Like I had one boyfriend that was from the UK.

0:49.6

That's kind of as far as my experience goes,

0:52.4

but I definitely learned some differences even just from him and hearing

0:56.0

how he interpreted the dating scene in the US versus in the UK.

1:00.3

It's kind of refreshing because they ask you the questions that you normally wouldn't ask yourself about why you date the way you do. I remember going on a date with someone who had just moved over from France and he did not understand the

1:14.8

dating multiple people thing. He was just like, what the fuck? Why do you all need so many

1:19.2

people in rotation? Why can't you just focus on one person? That's how it was with my ex from the UK too.

1:25.0

Like I remember being like, do I need to have the talk,

1:28.0

you know, like the DTR combo?

1:30.0

And then just one day he's made it very clear that I was the only person he was seeing but it wasn't in the DTR

1:36.4

Typical way at all it was just like oh yeah, this is so matter of fact like it didn't even cross his mind

1:41.9

That he would be dating someone else.
