Summary

It’s been another frantic week in the world of pro cycling, with early season races in several parts of southern Europe and the Middle East. Tudor Pro Cycling’s Larry Warbasse, who began his season at the Tour of Oman, is back in the co-host’s seat with Daniel Friebe to review some of the key action and talking points.

The most prestigious of the races starting this week, at least according to the UCI’s ranking system, is the UAE Tour. Many expected a revealing first head-to-head battle between Remco Evenepoel and Isaac Del Toro, and indeed they emerged from the first three stages with a win apiece. Only one of the pair, though, will have been satisfied with his GC position with the final showdown at Jebel Hafeet to come – and that was Del Toro.

Larry and Daniel discuss Evenepoel’s struggles at the other Jebel, Mobrah, and ponder what they say about the rest of his season. We also talk about some other prodigious talents that have been in spotlight early this year, wayward leadouts and Pinarello Q36.5’s recent trip to Chile, as described to us by Fred Wright.

Probably, I mean, in the sun right now, it's probably more than 20, because, like, I'm almost sweating in a T-shirt, so pretty, pretty nice weather here. We're pretty lucky springtime weather we've just been discussing your

springtime plans larry or your commitments shall we say um after were you doing a race this weekend

1:36.8

tell the listeners which race you do this weekend i'm doing oh wow now it's called tour de var and

next weeks tbd what's that the tour of tour or is Or is that too be defined? Tour, but not sure. There are so many, so many races changing their names at the moment. Dauphine, Pariurubay, I'm not going to say what they should be called now because we're going to, we're going to completely ignore the official denominations and continue to call them what they've always been called. Larry, that's the future. Let's kick off, shall we're talking a little bit about the recent past. You have been in action already. You were in Oman. When was that last week? There's been so much racing in the meantime that it seems like a long time ago. But how did it go for you? That was your season's debut. Yeah, I actually did

one day in Majorca. So I was sick in Majorca, so I only ended up doing one of the days there and

2:41.6

was just stuck in a hotel for a few days before. So that wasn't ideal. And then, yeah, went to

2:46.6

Oman. It was a nice race. Unfortunately, we didn't really get the results we were hoping for, but it's a

2:52.1

really pleasant race to do. It's like, I don't know, it's just, it's not too stressful. The weather's

2:59.5

great. It's hard enough, but not too hard. So, you know, races like UAE, there's a lot of stress,

3:06.4

but then a lot of the day you're just coasting. So, you know, a lot of people stress because, like, they're worried about losing fitness. And, you know, then the food's good in the hotel. So then you're like, ah, you know, can't eat too much because, like, we're not riding very hard. And then, but you still have the stress of the race and then stress of potential
