I'm your guide, Derek Hayes.

Once again, we find ourselves here.

The time when both shadows and evenings grow longer,

while our time with the sun's rays withers between our fingers.

We've reached the time when my ancestors would have rebeared feasts to honor and sacrifices to appease,

for even they knew, long ago, that a monster was on its way.

A grotesque beast of barren fields and empty bushels.

A creature called winter.

An unstoppable force.

And with each winter comes death.

And with each death, the veil between the living and the dead seemed to thin ever so slightly, revealing a land of rotten ruin, a purgatory just beyond this mortal coil.

And in these darkened times, we are taught to be vigilant of those changes, to beware of

the monsters, and find comfort in the dark.

For we know it is now that the veil is the thinnest.

It is now that we tread lightly.
