Summary

There’s both plenty of racing and plenty of Spanish omelettes for Rose Manley and Rebecca Charlton to get their teeth stuck into in this special Arrivée episode on the Vuelta Femenina.

With seven days of racing ranging from the pretty bumpy to the vertiginously mountainous, including a historic first summit finish on the Angliru, expect no shortage of drama from this first ‘Grand Tour’ of the year. With back-to-back champion Demi Vollering choosing not to compete this year, a brand new champion was set to be crowned, but who could it be? Would Tour de France Femmes champion Pauline Ferrand Prevot back up her Grand Tour credentials in Spain? Could Anna van der Breggen show that she’s back to her stage racing best? Or might this be the crowning moment for a surprising young star?

Also on the agenda: free jazz race reportage, unwanted gifts and Denny Gray’s 4am McDonald’s order.

You're listening to Arriva, from the cycling podcast Femina.

0:36.4

We are discussing today the

0:38.2

Welta-A-Spania Feminina and everything that happened across those seven stages. As always with

0:45.5

an Arriva episode, it's going to be full, well, it's going to be nothing but spoilers, basically.

0:50.0

If you're expecting to not find out what happened, then go elsewhere and have a little watch and come back or come and listen to our insight on exactly what went down in Spain.

1:01.4

Joining me for all of that in my cabana, I wish we were in a cabana, Rebecca Charlton, but we're not in a cabana, are we?

1:08.1

We're not even together in a cabana.

1:10.6

We could have pretended, at least, that we were together in a cabana, are we? We're not even together in a cabana. We could have pretended, at least,

1:13.4

that we were together in a cabana. But yes, one day we'll get there. But hello, Rose. Thanks

1:20.1

for having me back. You're very welcome, Rebecca. And I'll be interesting to hear about,

1:25.6

well, partly because I've got a little insight that you said on the

1:28.2

WhatsApp group that you were a bit underwhelmed by this race, which sounded very much like

1:35.2

you had an opinion on it, Rebecca, which is concerning. You've come off of your fence that,

1:41.5

because I thought it was quite, we're not, I'm going to go through exactly

1:44.3

what happened, but just to get your initial sort of vibe check on this race, I quite enjoyed it

1:50.0

because it was quite chaotic. There were winds were going everywhere. There were kind of

1:56.4

incidents. There were penalties. there was changing of the guard.

2:02.7

But yeah, but I hear that that's maybe you weren't so much on board.

2:08.3

But do you know what? I think that's exactly it. I think now I've looked back. I've got about

2:12.3

3,500 talking points across all the stages, as you do with any stage race, don't you?

2:19.3

But I wonder if my feeling was that I wanted this like clear battle all the way through

2:26.1

and, you know, this narrative to be like building to this person that crosses the finish line
