Welcome back to blood ties. I'm Geoffrey Wansaw and I'm here without my daughter Molly,

who's rather busy today and so I'm recording this podcast on my own.

I hope you enjoyed pottery cottage,

which I always thought was the most wonderful story.

And Molly and I and her brother and my son, Dan,

we went on a trip last week. We went to Edinburgh and then across to Greenock where I was born and so was my mother.

In fact we were born in the same building number six South Street in Greenock which is now called Inver Clyde it used to be called Renfrewshire it's on the Clyde it used to be a big

sugar importing port and my mother was born there in 1922 in the top flat of the tenement

and I was born there in 1945 in the bottom flat the bigger the biggest the biggest flats

from the bottom of the tenements.

It's extraordinary. Believe it or not, the tenement I was born in is for sale.

It's quite extraordinary. We didn't know that until we got there.

And it's directly opposite the cemetery.

And so I took my mother's ashes back to be scattered in the Garden of Remembrance in Greenneck overlooking the Clyde, which I thought was rather a nice thing to do. And Molly

and Dan were with me and it was very, it was very moving, actually, really rather wonderful.

And she died at the age of 97, so,

gricky.

She'd been pretty ill, though.

She had dementia and all sorts and mobility issues

and all kinds of difficulties, but nevertheless,

she was very, almost the only thing she remembered is the
