Summary

This episode of Service Course comes from two far flung destinations. Firstly Lizzy takes you to Arkansas where she was competing in the Joe Martin Stage Race and then Tom, with the help of Oskar Scarsbrook takes you to Sierra Leone. More specifically the Lunsar region of Sierra Leone where the Tour de Lunsar was taking place. The most important race in the region, the Tour de Lunsar is not on the UCI’s calendar but it is supported by our sponsors Science In Sport. You’ll hear an incredible atmosphere from a race like no other as well as from the riders taking part, and you’ll find out how donations of kit from the European peloton play a key role in making the race possible.

For more information on the Tour De Lunsar and to find out how you can support the race visit https://www.lunsarcycling.com/.

challenges of putting it on and the importance of it and it hopefully will really take you away

0:36.8

to listen to that, you have much time then skip forwards about 22 minutes into this episode

0:43.1

and you can spend an hour at the Torda Lundsar. All right on with the show.

1:04.1

Well Tom I'm in a very secret location in Belgium but I will tell you more about that later

1:16.0

of atmosphere from the Torda Lundsar which is in Sierra Leone and we're going to be going back

1:22.6

there very shortly and it's an extraordinary race. I really really want you to listen to this.

1:31.0

We'll spend about an hour in Sierra Leone covering the atmosphere of a very very unique race

1:38.0

but Lizzie you've been far afield as well haven't you recently? Yeah I have indeed. I've been over in

1:44.4

the US back at the Joe Martin stage race over there in Fayetteville, Arkansas and yeah that's

1:50.9

where I started my comeback actually a few weeks ago now. I mean Arkansas I think I don't know

1:58.8

much about Arkansas as a place. What's the sort of experience out there? How do you characterise it?

2:06.7

Well it's a really interesting place it's grown a lot since I was last there in 2018. It's becoming

2:12.2

a bit of a bike capital actually but whilst I was out there I actually bumped into a friend of

2:16.6

the podcast and I had a little bit of a chat with them about well you'll hear shortly and also

2:21.8

a little bit more about Arkansas so maybe we should just go straight over to that. Well I've just

2:26.0

finished the Joe Martin stage race out here in Fayetteville, Arkansas and well we had a really good race.

2:31.1

We won with my teammate Lauren Stevens and I just bumped into a member of Henry Fernandez
