Summary

Arrivée returns with our on-the-whistle review of the world championship men’s road race in Glasgow - where the grumbles about the crit-like course were drowned out by a pulsating, heavy metal battle for the rainbow jersey.

Much of the pre-race speculation focused on the latest instalment of Mathieu van der Poel and Wout Van Aert’s age-old rivalry. Tadej Pogačar and Mads Pedersen were among the riders overshadow them and indeed defending champion Remco Evenpoel - and all of the aforementioned quintet would be in the thick of the action on Sunday.

Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe discuss who came out on top and why on a memorable afternoon in Scotland.

No, am I going to make a comment about the Scottish summer? I've got in trouble for that before.

I'm sure you remember that, Daniel, from the 90s, or more recently the tour series.

I think I've been reflecting on this in a couple of hours since the race finished,

and I think it's good that there are different flavours of World Championship road races,

the best one-day riders in the world to the four and have them battle it out for the rainbow jersey,
