I'm Geoffrey Wansel.

I thought we might do something rather different today, that we wanted to interview a true crime author, very talented American true crime author called Greg Olson, who has a new book just coming out

in this country called American Mother about a woman who poisoned her husband and also poisoned

another woman, almost by accident, by doctoring the Tylenol tablets that they took.

And so here's a conversation I had with Greg, which I hope you'll enjoy.

I think it's fascinating. Well, Greg, welcome to a blood ties podcast.

Very good to have you with us, especially for all that way away, thousands and thousands of miles.

But your book, American Mother, has just come out in Britain.

And I've been doing this podcast for about five years, always about true crime.

And so we thought it'd be very interesting to talk to someone who'd written a really good,

and I do confess, I think it's a really good true grand book,

about how you go about it, how you feel about it,

and maybe even to ask you the simplest question of all,

why did you choose this particular story?

So let's begin at the beginning.

Give us, you know, the speed dial version of what the book's about.

What a speed dial version is, it's about a woman named Stella Nicol

who decides that her life isn't going the way she wants it to go.

She's in her 40s.

Her husband no longer drinks, so he's not fun

...
