So in this season theme where I'm getting to talk to some of my favorite authors and thinkers,

one of the topics that's come up quite a bit is parenting.

And I'm finding myself especially fascinated lately with the idea of old fashioned parenting

versus modern parenting and the pros and cons of each.

So when I was researching the book or excuse me, the chapter about children in my latest

book that is not out yet, but it will be next year, I came across this book, The Gift of Failure,

by Jess Filahi. And I was instantly intrigued because this is a theme that I have talked about

just in my own circles locally, but also online here and there over the last couple years.

And I thought that the research and information she had to share on that was amazing.

So I am so excited to have Jess Filahi herself here on the podcast today to talk about these

topics and how failure can be a gift for us and our children.

So welcome on board, Jessica. Thank you so so much for having me. I'm just so happy to be here.

Yeah, so let's just we'll just dive right in, give me a little bit of backgrounds

as far as like why you wanted to write this book, why this topic was compelling to you.

So I was a teacher for 20 years in every grade from six to 12, but when I was writing,

when I proposed The Gift of Failure, when I wrote an article that sort of led to the publication

of the book, I was teaching middle school. And you know, middle school is this amazing time that

really until just recently was sort of kids last great opportunity to sort of

screw around, make mistakes, learn from their mistakes, that kind of thing. And yet at the same time,

I was seeing this encroaching sort of high school, what middle school is now is sort of like

pre-high school. And no, no, no, you can't make any mistakes there. And it's, you know, all of that
