0:28.0	Alexa and today we continue our study of the Book of Sakurai by looking
0:31.8	on Sakurai 7 through 10.

0:48.9	in Zachariah, about true repentance. The people had been fasting as a sign of mourning and
0:55.2	repentance and they ask if they still need fast now that God plans to fulfill his promises.
1:01.1	However, God questions if the people have been fasting for
1:04.4	genuine reasons. If the people have been fasting as a way to demonstrate the
1:08.7	repentance, then they no longer need to fast. But if the people have been fasting for selfish reasons,
1:15.2	this shows that they don't have repented hearts.
1:17.7	God desires for his people to turn away from their sin
1:20.1	and be faithful to him.
1:21.7	He tells Sakurai to encourage the people of Israel's
1:24.1	faithfulness by calling them to extend justice and mercy to one another. A
1:28.5	reflection of their repentant and obedient hearts would be expressed by their care for the oppressed.
1:34.6	God reveals how the former generations did not listen to the Lord and they hardened their
1:38.9	hearts against him.
1:40.4	As a result he punished them by scattering them through exile and bringing desolation to the land.
