All right, let's talk about the book of Titus.

The Apostle Paul wrote this book as a letter to his ministry partner, Titus.

Paul had just planted several churches on the island of Crete,

and he had left Titus there to build up these churches. But the churches were struggling, mainly

because of two reasons. One, Christianity was very different from the way they had been living.

Crete was well known for being a horribly immoral, violent, and corrupt place.

And two, there were false teachers on the island of Crete,

and they were trying to make the new Christ followers uphold Old Testament laws,

but the only reason they were doing this was for their own financial gain.

With all that in mind, chapter one is going to make a lot more sense.
