points to Jesus. Hey friends, welcome back to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. My name is

Shelby Turner. I'm one of your hosts for this podcast and today is our second day in the book of

Matthew. I don't know about you but so far I am loving the New Testament. All of the

Old Testament points to Jesus. We have been waiting and hoping for a Savior and now he has finally arrived.

In today's reading, Jesus is the focal point.

Chapter 4 begins with Jesus entering the wilderness for 40 days of prayer and fasting and

there he was tempted by the devil to sin. Each of the three times he was tempted

he quotes scripture as his way out of temptation. This is an example we too

should follow when we face times of temptation. After 40 days he enters

Galilee which fulfills yet another Old Testament prophecy.

Remember that's a theme we're going to see throughout Matthew.

How Jesus's life fulfills Old Testament prophecies and he begins his public ministry at the age of 30.

John the Baptist has been arrested at this point and Jesus begins to preach as a

fulfillment of the message that John preached in preparation. So John was preaching

repent for the kingdom of God is at hand and now Jesus is preaching the same.

Jesus then calls his first four disciples. They are Simon, who is called Peter, Andrew, James, and John, and they immediately leave their entire lives behind to follow Jesus.

They begin to travel and preach, heal, and proclaim that the Messiah has come.

Chapter 5 is the beginning of the sermon on the mount. It is one of the most

well-known sermons of all time and it covers a multitude of subjects but the primary
