0:16.8	points to Jesus. Hi friends welcome back to a year in the Bible with daily grace. My name is
0:28.0	Shelby Turner. I'm one of your hosts for this podcast and today we're going to
0:31.8	talk about chapters 19 through 21 in the book of
0:34.9	Matthew. In these chapters Jesus is traveling towards and arrives at Jerusalem
0:40.4	which we know will be the place where he will be crucified.
0:44.0	So what does Jesus choose to do with some of his last days before his death?
0:49.0	Let's look at today's text to see.
0:52.0	In chapters 19 and 20, Jesus is continuing his teaching
0:55.7	from chapter 18 about the upside down kingdom. These chapters are varied in their
1:01.6	setting and the people involved.
1:04.1	Jesus teaches on divorce, addresses children, tells parables,
1:08.7	confronts the rich young ruler, and addresses the disciples. And he even talks to James and John's mother. Although there's a lot
1:16.9	happening in these two chapters they are united in their message. The
1:21.1	kingdom of God is not what anyone thought it would be. It is not about
1:26.2	being revered, wealthy, or the appearance of righteousness. It is about serving,
1:31.6	being humble, and having a heart that is right before God.
1:35.0	Chapter 20 versus 26 and 27 sum up the message Jesus teaching in this way.
1:41.0	It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever
1:45.9	wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first
1:50.9	among you must be your slave.
