0:28.2	Shelby Turner. I'm one of your hosts for this podcast and today we are
0:32.2	continuing to read through the book of
0:34.0	Matthew with chapters 13 through 15. We just passed the halfway point in the
0:40.6	book of Matthew and today's text is loaded with miracles and the Messiah.
0:47.1	Let's talk about it.
0:48.7	In chapter 13, Jesus teaches a large crowd in parables.
0:54.0	Now I want you to know that it's okay if you read a parable and it doesn't make sense to you.
0:59.2	We see that even Jesus' disciples didn't understand the parables he taught, but when they had a hard time
1:05.5	understanding they asked him for clarification, which is exactly what we should do.
1:11.6	We should read Jesus' explanations of the parables and we
1:15.3	should seek trusted resources we should pray and ask for the Holy Spirit to
1:19.9	illuminate God's word all to help us understand. The parables in chapter 13 talk about
1:27.0	the kingdom of heaven and the various ways people respond to it. In each
1:32.4	parable the ones who responded rightly were the ones who
1:36.6	had a heart ready to receive and acted in response to the gospel message. And we should have the same heart when we read
1:44.6	scripture even if we don't understand right away. Chapter 14 is packed with
1:49.5	action. John the Baptist is beheaded by Herod and in response Jesus steals away to
1:56.6	pray but crowds follow him and Jesus has compassion on them and he begins to
2:02.4	feed the huge and hungry crowd.
