Matthew with chapters 13 through 15. We just passed the halfway point in the

book of Matthew and today's text is loaded with miracles and the Messiah.

Let's talk about it.

In chapter 13, Jesus teaches a large crowd in parables.

Now I want you to know that it's okay if you read a parable and it doesn't make sense to you.

We see that even Jesus' disciples didn't understand the parables he taught, but when they had a hard time

understanding they asked him for clarification, which is exactly what we should do.

We should read Jesus' explanations of the parables and we

should seek trusted resources we should pray and ask for the Holy Spirit to

illuminate God's word all to help us understand. The parables in chapter 13 talk about

the kingdom of heaven and the various ways people respond to it. In each

parable the ones who responded rightly were the ones who

had a heart ready to receive and acted in response to the gospel message. And we should have the same heart when we read

scripture even if we don't understand right away. Chapter 14 is packed with

action. John the Baptist is beheaded by Herod and in response Jesus steals away to

pray but crowds follow him and Jesus has compassion on them and he begins to

feed the huge and hungry crowd.
