Welcome back to year in the Bible of Daily Grace. My name is Alexa and today we are going

to continue our study of Judges by taking a look at Judges 4-6. Judges 4-6 focuses on

two judges, Deborah and Gideon. In Judges 4, Deborah summons a man named Barak and tells

him how the Lord has commanded him to fight against Israel's enemies. Barak is hesitant

to do this without Deborah, so he asks for her help to go with him.

Barak to ask this of Deborah shows that she is a strong woman. Barak knew that he would

be strengthened in his fight because of Deborah. But Deborah's strength does not come from

herself. It is apparent that Deborah relies wholeheartedly on the Lord. Unlike the people

of Israel who have abandoned the help of the Lord, Deborah trusts in the Lord. She knows

that without him, the people of Israel will not have success. She reminds Barak that the

Lord woke up before him, and because of this, he can have courage. Sure enough, the Lord

helps Barak to feed Israel's enemies, just as Deborah has said.

Chapter 5 tells us that because of this victory, the nation had a rest for 40 years. Unfortunately,

Israel resorts back to their evil ways, and they resume the vicious cycle they have set

for themselves. Israel needs deliverance once again, and God uses another judge named Gideon

to provide them with deliverance. An angel of the Lord appears to Gideon and tells Gideon

of the mission God has appointed for him. God reveals his plan to use Gideon to save

people of Israel. Begideon doubts his ability to do this, and even doubts the provision

of the Lord. In order to trust God, Gideon tests God three times, and asks God to provide
