today we are talking about Joshua 22 through 24. Today marks the closing of the book of Joshua.

In these final chapters, we see that Israel is in the promised land and at rest.

However, even while it rests, we will see that there is a misunderstanding among them.

This book also closes with final instructions from Joshua that somewhat foreshadow the

eventual exile of the Israelites. So let's dive into this final day in the book of Joshua.

As noted a moment ago, chapter 22 opens with the Israelites together and at rest in the promised

land. We also see in verse 5 that Joshua instructs the eastern tribes of Israel to love the Lord

their God, walk in all his ways, keep his commands, be loyal to him and serve him with all their

heart and soul. After Joshua gives his final instruction, the eastern tribes return home.

However, this moment of peace does not last long. Soon, there is miscommunication over an alter

the eastern tribes built and the other tribes that the Israelites are angry because they believe

they have built an alter to worship other gods and have turned away from the Lord and the other

tribes decide to go to war against them. However, when they arrive to where the Israelites

in the east are living, they learn that they misunderstood the purpose of the alter.

The truth is that Israelites built the alter as a witness between all of the Israelites,

that the eastern Israelites serve the Lord. Once the conflict is resolved, there is peace again

among them. Then, there is a pause in the story and it seems that little happens for many years.

The story picks up again in chapter 23 after the Israelites have been living in the promised land
