Hey everybody, welcome back to a year in the Bible of Daily Grace. My name is Jenny and

today we'll be getting into the book of Joshua and discussing Joshua chapters one through

three. Joshua is a book about God's fulfilled promises. You may remember that ever since

Genesis 15, God has promised his people that he would give a piece of land to Abraham's

descendants. God began fulfilling this promise with Exodus from Egypt and the parting of

the Red Sea. Now the time has come for God to fulfill his promise completely. In Joshua

one through three, we see three things take place. The introduction of a new leader, a spy mission,

and the crossing of the Jordan toward the Promised Land. So let's get started. Joshua one picks up

right after the death Moses. We already know from Deuteronomy 31 that God has commissioned Joshua

to lead Israelites into the Promised Land. Now we see Joshua hear the same command from God again.

And this time God also makes another promise to Joshua. God promises Joshua that he will be with

him just as he was with Moses. Next we see Joshua send two spies into Jericho to scout the land.

Just as Joshua had done in Numbers 13. However, unlike the ten spies who were sent with Joshua the

first time, these two spies did not incite distrust. Instead, they befriended a prostitute named

Rahab who displayed faith in God and saved the spies from capture. She did this by sneaking the

spies out a window of her house and directed them to hide in the hill country for three days.

In return, the spies promised to protect her family as long as she tied a scarlet cord to the

window. Finally, in Joshua 3, the Israelites crossed the Jordan River. This serves as the perfect
