you today. Now today is our final episode in Deuteronomy. To wrap up we will end with discussing

chapters 31 through 34. Moses brought Joshua before the presence of the Lord to appoint him as the

next leader. Because of his disobedience in the wilderness when he struck the rock for water,

Moses would not enter the Promised Land but die in the wilderness. Joshua must have been fearful

that he was leaving his assistant position and taking on such a large responsibility. The Lord

told Joshua to be strong and courageous. For God was always with him. God revealed to Moses that

the people were going to disobey him in the Promised Land. The Lord was going to turn his face

from the Israelites after they committed such sin. He knew that the people would question and wonder

why he removed his protective hand. So God told Moses to write a song that would give a witness to

why. Moses recited the song to the people and he taught it to them. The song was a testimony of

God's faithfulness and love. It exposed Israel's sin and their idolatry and it predicted their

destruction in the hand of their foes. But at the conclusion of the song there was hope. It promised

God's restoration and that he would purify the land and his people. After this Moses went up to

a mountain. The mountain was the place where God met with Moses when he first called him to deliver

the people. It was also where God showed Moses his glory. And finally it was where Moses received the

law. At the end of his life Moses would meet with God on a mountain again. There he looked over the

mountain's edge and saw Canaan. He saw the abundant fruit trees, the fresh springs, the green fields.
