Ali and I am one of the hosts of the podcast. Today we'll be looking at John Chapter 16 through 18.

In the last episode as we looked at chapters 13, 14, and 15,

Jesus humbled himself to wash the feet of his disciples, explaining

to them that we cannot love others and become a servant to all, unless he has cleansed us. He tells his disciples that he is the way, the truth, and the life, and he promised them that although he was about to leave them, would send his spirit to live inside them.

He creates new hearts within us as we abide in him.

Moving into chapter 16, Jesus experiences his last intimate time with his disciples

before he's taken away to be crucified. In these moments Jesus tells them that being his followers is not going to be easy,

just as the world rejected Christ and hated him, so the world will reject and hate us as well.

Jesus is about to be crucified, and this will be a picture of his ultimate rejection

as he is put on trial, beaten, and crucified for sins he didn't commit.

For he was perfect in every way, having never committed any sin.

Yet he went to the cross gladly. He went because he loved us and

sacrificing his life for hours was the only way. He poured out his love as his blood spilled out and because of that those who place their faith, their trust in him will have eternal life.

We will no longer be bound by sin, but will have freedom in Christ and life everlasting with him.

And in that life everlasting, he will redeem us and restore us fully to himself. Jesus continues to warn the disciples of the struggles they will face in his name because he wants them not to be surprised when struggles come.

His disciples still do not understand exactly what he

means, but in the confusion they had hope and comfort in Jesus' promise that their sorrow would be turned to joy, for he would overcome the world.

And in his physical absence from this earth, he would send his spirit to dwell inside them and Jesus explains for his

disciples and for us today that this spiritual presence is as wonderful as his physical presence for those who belong to him.
