27. Let's jump right in. The first few verses in chapter 25

remind us of where we are in history. We are about 600 years, BC or before Christ was born. Up to this point,

Jeremiah had been faithfully preaching the message of repentance and judgment for

23 years. The Lord was gracious with his people

sending prophets to encourage them to turn away from idols and turn and obey the

Lord and worship him alone. But they refused. So now in this 11th

message, Jeremiah is told the specifics of the judgment that would come upon them.

God was going to use the pagan king of Babylon,

King Nebuchanezer, to overcome them and force them into exile for 70 years. God tells them that Babylon would destroy them and make an example of scorn of

them in the 70 years of captivity. But then God says that the tables would turn after those 70 years.

A remnant would return and God would turn the judgment upon Babylon and punish them for their

in equity and they would be in service to God's people.

But first the judgment on God's people.

Jeremiah is told to take the cup of God's wrath and take it to Jerusalem and to surrounding nations.

Drinking the cup of God's wrath was symbolic for enduring God's judgment.
