Hey friends, welcome back to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. My name is

Shelby Turner. I'm one of your hosts for this podcast, and today we are going to

talk about chapters four through six of the book of Hebrews. If you missed

yesterday's episode, go back and have a listen as it explains some of the

background information of this book, and I think it'll be really helpful for

you as we talk about today's reading. Chapters four through six are absolutely

jam-packed with truth. So let's get started. Chapter four actually picks up right

where chapter three left off. It emphasizes the importance of responding to

Jesus with faith, unlike the Israelites who doubted God after he led them out

of Egypt and into the wilderness. Then in verse 14 of chapter four, and on into

chapter five, the topic shifts a bit, and they talk about Jesus as the great

high priest. These are some of my favorite verses in the entire Bible. In the Old

Testament, the high priest would enter the most holy place, which is where God's

presence dwelt with his people only one day a year on the day of atonement. The

high priest would sprinkle the blood of sacrificed animals on the altar to

atone for the sins of the entire nation of Israel, and then they would leave the

most holy place, and they would not enter it again until the day of atonement

the next year. Jesus, however, is a better high priest. He is the great high priest.
