Welcome back to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This is Joanna Kimberl, your host

as we journey through the book of Genesis together. And today we are in chapters 4 through 6.

To recap briefly, God just created the world and filled it with life. Adam and Eve were

tempted and re-bouled. And their sin brought a curse that impacts every corner of creation

and every single one of us on a daily basis. Now all humans are sinful and all are condemned

to death for their sin. But God made a promise to send an offspring of Eve who would crush

the head of the serpent. This offspring would be Jesus who would save believers from sin

and reverse the curse. So now as we continue through Genesis, the people of God are waiting

for that promised seed, that promised offspring who would bring salvation. Chapter 4 begins with hope

through the birth of a son named Kane to Adam and Eve. Could this one be the promised offspring?

Adam and Eve have another son named Abel. And Kane and Abel both made offerings to the Lord.

And while Abel's offering was accepted, God did not accept Kane's offering. So Kane was jealous

and angry and he actually murdered his younger brother Abel. This first murder only one generation

after Adam and Eve's original sin shows that sin is growing. Kane's sin made it very clear

that he was unable to be the promised offspring from Genesis 3. And Abel was dead.

God pronounced a curse upon Kane but extended a degree of mercy that would protect him from harm.

One of Kane's offspring named Lamek displays the continued spread and increase of sin in the world.
