Hi, I'm Mary M. Williamson and thank you so much for being with me.

One of the most exciting things about doing a podcast is that you get to have conversations

with people that excite you, interest you, fascinate you, and it's an honor to be able

to have deeper conversations with some of the people whose works have meant so much to

me personally.

This is definitely true about my guest today, author Sumonk Kidd, who has in my mind

a one of our very, very finest contemporary American authors.

Alexander Sultzenitsson, Russian writer, won the Nobel Prize for Literature, said that

a writer is a government in exile.

Sumonk Kidd takes topics of historical importance and she turns them into stories, often about

characters who actually lived, historical figures who were not just cardboard characters.

They were real living, breathing people, flesh and blood.

And nowhere is that truer than in her book The Invention of Wings.

Also another book I talked to her about in this podcast is a book called The Book of Longings.

How lucky I am to have been able to talk to Sumonk Kidd about those two books and her

journey as an artist.
