Today we start the next book of the Bible,

Daniel.

Daniel is split into two distinct sections.

The first half details the life of four Israelite men who were captured

in exile to Babylon. And the second half is apocalyptic literature, which gives visions, prophesying events leading up to the Lord's

Overall, Daniel is a great book for seeing the importance of faithfulness through trying times and having hope in God's good kingdom.

Let's get started with Daniel's chapter 1 through 3. At the beginning of chapter 1

we learned that King Nebuchanese of Babylon invaded

Judah and took captives from Jerusalem.

As just punishment for the Israelites' disobedience, God removed his protecting hand and allowed

remained committed to them and showed favor upon the faithful. By God's grace these faithful ones were Daniel, Hananaia,

Michayel, and Azariah, who were later given Babylonian names. As men of nobility, they were taken into the king's palace and educated in

Babylonian culture. They were pressured to assimilate in ways that would dishonor
