talk about acts 10 through 12.

Now this is a significant portion of scripture

because God is going to make it clear

that it is his will, that he intended the gospel for not only the Jews but also for the

Gentiles. He does this through Peter and a Roman soldier named Cornelius.

In chapter 10, Peter has a vision given by God in which he sees a sheet filled with all sorts

of different ceremoniously unclean foods, and he hears the Lord tell him to eat the food. Now in

Levitical law Jews were forbidden to eat certain kinds of animals and fish and

Peter was a devout Jew he had never certain kinds of animals and fish.

And Peter was a devout Jew.

He had never broken these laws before.

And so when he hears the Lord tell him to eat these foods,

he refuses.

But then the Lord says, what God has called clean, do not call common.

God is showing Peter that under the new covenant, the covenant of Jesus, through Jesus's death and resurrection he has created new rules.

This theme continues when Peter is summoned by a Roman soldier named Cornelius.
